Finally – after almost three years in development Pronounceology is going live! If you’re reading this you probably already know what Pronounceology is, but just in case, here’s a nutshell description:
Pronounceology allows you to search multiple online dictionaries at once, in bulk. Short and simple, but the angels are in the details! You can import search terms in multiple ways, including cutting and pasting a word list, type directly into the search box, import a spreadsheet, or upload a highlighted PDF. Pronounceology then takes your search terms and runs them through online dictionaries to find you one authoritative result. The next step is to sort and search your report, adding notes, recording your own pronunciation, researching your own URL, and adding phonetic spelling. Once complete, you can share the report with collaborators or export the data back to a spreadsheet.
How did this come about?
I came up with this idea years ago because I was getting tired of cutting and pasting words one at a time into Merriam Webster or Dictionary.com. Surly, I thought, someone had designed a way to do this in bulk? I searched and searched, but nary a solution could I find, so I decided to just build it myself!
As of launch day (June 8th, 2018), we’ll be starting with one membership tier at $14.99, which will grab you 1200 search terms a month. We can always add tiers later if the interest is sufficient. For an open beta launch we’re offering one month free so you can kick the tires!
So check it out and let me know what you think!
